Tovino Thomas Unveils Intriguing Details About Upcoming Period Film 'Pallichattambi'
In an exciting development for Malayalam cinema, actor Tovino Thomas is collaborating for the first time with acclaimed director Dijo Jose Antony, known for 'Jana Gana Mana', on the highly anticipated movie 'Pallichattambi'. The film features Kayadu Lohar in the female lead role, adding to the buzz surrounding this period action entertainer.
Plot and Setting: A Fictional Tale Inspired by Real Events
During a recent interview with IANS, Tovino Thomas shared some fascinating insights into the film's narrative, while carefully avoiding major spoilers. He expressed immense excitement upon hearing the script but emphasized the importance of preserving the audience's viewing experience by not revealing too much about the storyline.
The film is set in the years 1957-58, a pivotal era in Kerala's history marked by significant socio-political transformations and resistances. However, Tovino clarified that the story itself is entirely fictional, crafted to be believable while drawing inspiration from real-life events of that time.
"We have tried to make our fiction as believable as possible. And the inspiration from the real-life scenarios that happened at that point of time has helped a lot," he explained, highlighting the careful balance between historical context and creative storytelling.
Tovino's Character: A Protector with a Message of Humanity
Delving into his role, Tovino described his character as a 'Palli Chettambi', an outsider who arrives in a village to protect the church. The narrative explores his journey as he navigates life in this new setting and influences those around him.
"What happens in this village after he comes there and how he understands life. How he makes people understand life. The only politics that we are trying to tell in this movie is humanity," he stated, underscoring the film's core theme of human connection and empathy amidst historical turmoil.
Exit from Telugu Film 'Dragon' Due to Scheduling Constraints
In related news, Tovino Thomas confirmed his departure from the big-budget Telugu film 'Dragon', which stars Jr NTR and is directed by Prashant Neel. During a promotional event in Hyderabad, he cited scheduling difficulties as the primary reason for his exit.
"It is really hard to allocate dates, so I am not doing it," he said, elaborating on his working style. "I don’t do multiple films at the same time. In Malayalam, we usually complete a film in a single schedule. But in Telugu, it takes almost a year to finish one project. That’s why I’m not doing straight Telugu films. I can commit 3 months, not an entire year."
This decision reflects his preference for the efficient production schedules typical of Malayalam cinema, allowing him to focus on projects like 'Pallichattambi' without overlapping commitments.
Release Date and Anticipation
'Pallichattambi' is scheduled to hit screens on April 10, promising audiences a gripping period action entertainer set against the backdrop of Kerala's changing times. With its blend of historical inspiration and fictional drama, the film is poised to be a significant addition to Tovino Thomas's diverse filmography, following hits like 'Minnal Murali' and 'Lokah'.
As fans eagerly await its release, this project marks a notable collaboration in Indian cinema, bringing together talented actors and filmmakers to explore themes of humanity and history in an engaging format.
