"When I saw him in Badlapur after Student of the Year, I was genuinely impressed by what a dramatic switch he was making. So, in my mind, if Varun is coming into Border 2, then I am going to get that Varun who can show that impressive range he demonstrated in Badlapur or October."
The director continued his passionate defense, adding, "I absolutely loved his work in October; he has genuine capability. He is a damn good actor, and when he arrived on the set, he immediately started hitting the precise notes that we wanted for this character."
Commenting directly on the trolls and critics, Singh revealed, "I believe people should remember what that actor has accomplished previously and understand his true range. Interestingly, now people are actually apologizing. People are asking, 'Where should we submit the application for apology?'"
