Balan recounted how she had already made up her mind to accept the role when producer-actor Riteish Deshmukh first approached her with the project. "I had decided that I would do it the moment I heard about it," she revealed. However, displaying remarkable restraint, the actress deliberately held back her enthusiasm until Deshmukh had left her residence, not wanting to appear overly eager during their initial discussion.
The actress explained her emotional connection to the project, emphasizing how her Mumbai upbringing made this film particularly meaningful. "Because I was born in Mumbai and grew up here, being part of a Marathi film of this scale about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a matter of great pride for me," Balan stated passionately.

Balan shared her initial reaction when she first learned about the film's development. "I heard that a Marathi film is being made on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and Ritesh is making it," she recalled. Her curiosity was immediately piqued, especially when she discovered other actors were already attached to the project.
The actress admitted to experiencing moments of self-doubt during this period. "I was thinking that Sanju is doing it, Abhishek is doing it. Why didn't Ritesh come to me?" she revealed. "Then I thought that maybe there won't be any role for me, or maybe he doesn't like me as an actor."

When Deshmukh finally approached her with the script, Balan made a conscious effort to conceal her already-formed enthusiasm. "He came and told me the story, and I was listening very carefully," she described. "I told him that I will think about it and tell you, because I didn't want to express too much excitement."
However, once Deshmukh departed, Balan immediately reached out with her affirmative answer. "He left the house and I called him and told him that I am doing it," she confessed. "This is a matter of great pride for me. And I am very, very excited. And what a treat!"
