"I once received an opportunity to helm a very large-scale film. However, when a film gets dropped, it becomes incredibly difficult to regain momentum with the next project," Shivan revealed. He elaborated further, "The experience is akin to a moment at a wedding ceremony when the groom abruptly walks away just before tying the sacred thread. Similar to how devastating that would be for the bride, it is equally painful for a filmmaker when a project halts suddenly."
Recalling Doubt and Criticism from Industry Peers
The director also reflected on the advice and reactions he encountered during that challenging period. According to Shivan, numerous individuals suggested he should opt for smaller, simpler films rather than pursuing ambitious projects.
"During that time, I consistently heard people advising, 'Just make a small film... create something straightforward,'" he shared. Shivan noted that such comments often carried an implicit message of doubt about his capabilities. "Without stating it explicitly, people made me feel inadequate. I have faced that sentiment on multiple occasions throughout my career," he confessed, highlighting the persistent obstacles he has overcome.

Despite these professional hurdles, Vignesh Shivan expressed unwavering confidence in moviegoers' support. He recalled a similar situation with his earlier film 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan', which faced skepticism even after completing censor formalities.
"Even after the film was censored, hardly anyone believed it would succeed. Yet, I have always trusted the profound connection with audiences who visit theatres," Shivan stated. Concluding his speech on an optimistic note, the director added, "I am eagerly awaiting April 10. I firmly believe that the faith I have invested in this narrative will ultimately triumph."
