Known for his intense and brooding screen presence, actor Vijay Varma is set to surprise audiences with a complete image transformation in his upcoming film Gustaakh Ishq. The versatile performer embraces the role of a charming lover boy, marking a significant departure from his previous characters that have earned him critical acclaim.
New Partnership with Fatima Sana Shaikh
The film also represents a milestone in Varma's career as it features his first collaboration with actress Fatima Sana Shaikh. When asked about their initial connection on set, the actor revealed an immediate professional chemistry that developed naturally. "You have to be fully present in the scene you're doing. Fortunately, Fatima and I connected instantly. We became friends very easily," shared Varma with a smile.
Their off-screen relationship flourished as the two discovered they shared remarkably similar comedic sensibilities. "She has a wonderfully twisted sense of humour — and so do I," he laughed during the conversation. "We end up laughing at the same jokes, and no one around us understands why the two of us are cracking up. Sometimes it becomes a bit problematic — our jokes, our laughter."
When Chemistry Becomes a Challenge
While their comfortable rapport initially seemed beneficial for their performances, Varma admitted that their genuine friendship occasionally created complications during filming. Their natural ease with each other sometimes contradicted the emotional dynamics required by their characters in the romantic narrative.
"Our friendship made the scenes effortless, but it also became a hindrance at times because that level of familiarity wasn't written into the script," Varma explained. "The characters were meant to have a certain distance — a romance of forgotten times, something unsaid, something withheld. And there we were, constantly cracking jokes."
Directorial Intervention Required
The situation reached a point where director Vibhu Puri had to step in and provide guidance to the actors. The filmmaker needed to remind them of the specific emotional tone required for their characters' relationship dynamic.
"Vibhu came to us and said, 'Tum log itni masti karna band karo. Don't be so familiar — your characters aren't supposed to be this close,'" Varma recalled about the director's intervention. This necessary correction helped the actors recalibrate their performances to better serve the story's requirements.
This behind-the-scenes revelation offers fascinating insight into the acting process and demonstrates how real-life relationships between co-stars can both enhance and complicate character portrayals. As Vijay Varma prepares to showcase his romantic side in Gustaakh Ishq, audiences await to see how this new dimension adds to his already impressive acting range.
