Vijay's Jana Nayagan Postponed: Madras HC Order Awaited, CBFC Certificate Delay
Vijay's Jana Nayagan postponed, new date soon

In a major disappointment for fans, the highly anticipated Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan has been officially postponed from its scheduled release on January 9. The production house, KVN Productions, announced the delay late on Wednesday, citing "unavoidable circumstances beyond our control."

CBFC Certificate Delay Triggers Postponement

The decision comes directly on the heels of a crucial hearing at the Madras High Court. The court has reserved its order on a petition filed by KVN Productions, which sought a directive for the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue a censor certificate for the political action film. The plea specifically requested the certificate under the 'UA 16+' category.

With the court expected to pronounce its order on the morning of January 9 itself—the film's original release day—the producers were left with no choice but to push the release. The uncertainty surrounding the mandatory CBFC clearance made a theatrical rollout on the slated date impossible.

Production House Issues Emotional Statement

KVN Productions released a heartfelt statement expressing their regret over the postponement. They acknowledged the immense anticipation surrounding the film and stated that the call to delay was not an easy one for the team.

The full statement read: "It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control. We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement, and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us."

The statement concluded by assuring fans that a new release date will be announced at the earliest and requested patience and continued support from the audience.

A History of Controversy for Vijay's Films

This is not the first time a Vijay film has found itself in a contentious situation prior to release. The actor's earlier blockbuster, Mersal, was mired in controversy for its critical takes on government policies like the Goods and Services Tax (GST), medical malpractice, and the Digital India initiative.

The current hurdle for Jana Nayagan is purely procedural, centering on the pending certification from the censor board. The film's fate now rests on the Madras High Court's order and the subsequent actions of the CBFC. Fans across Tamil Nadu and beyond will have to wait a little longer to see their favourite star on the big screen.
