Kavita Khanna Unveils Vinod Khanna's Profound Spiritual Odyssey
In a deeply personal revelation, Kavita Khanna, the second wife of late Bollywood legend Vinod Khanna, has shared extraordinary insights into the actor's spiritual journey. Through a video on her YouTube channel, she detailed his dramatic departure from stardom, his devotion to Osho, subsequent trauma, and ultimate faith in Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
The Fateful Meeting: "My Flowers Never Die"
Kavita recounted their first encounter in 1989 at Vinod's 43rd birthday party. "We barely spoke that evening," she said. "But as we were leaving, he saw us off at the door." A poignant moment unfolded when she noticed bouquets lining the stairs. "I asked what he would do with all the flowers, suggesting he give them to a hospital before they died. He looked at me and said, 'My flowers never die.'"
She interpreted this as a reflection of his spiritual essence, noting, "That was the gardener in Vinod—he had been Osho's gardener. He was very spiritual from childhood."
From Superstardom to Sannyas: The Osho Chapter
Kavita revealed that Vinod's spiritual curiosity ignited early. "At 17, he bought 'Autobiography of a Yogi.' Unbeknownst to him, Osho was in the same bookstore at the time." The catalyst for his radical shift was a series of personal tragedies. "The tipping point came with multiple family deaths within two years. After his mother passed, he went to Osho and took sannyas, abandoning immense material success and adulation."
At the commune, Vinod served as Osho's gardener. "If you were the gardener, you were in his garden. That was his seva," Kavita explained.
Life in the Commune and Its Aftermath
Kavita described the intense environment at Osho's Oregon commune, where Vinod participated in exclusive encounter groups. "The spiritual practice was extremely physical," she said. The situation darkened as the commune grew. "They built a city, aimed to win elections, had their own army. It became chaotic." She referenced Osho's secretary, Sheila, as "tyrannical," and mentioned allegations of poisoned water supplies.
One of Vinod's deepest sorrows was separation from his children. "He hadn't seen them and would cry, unable to return to India," Kavita shared.
Trauma and Departure from Osho
Vinod left Oregon before the commune collapsed, but was severely affected. "He was very, very traumatized," Kavita emphasized. This impacted his work: "He'd deliver an amazing shot on set, then weep in his van." He never returned to the Pune ashram, except for one final meeting where Osho asked him to lead it. "Vinod said no to his guru for the first and only time," she revealed.
Finding Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Later, Vinod guided Kavita toward Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. "He said, 'Kavita, this is the Guru for you. Don't miss this time.'" At a private satsang, Gurudev noted Vinod had no questions. "Vinod immediately knew this presence was the full stop," she recalled.
Miraculous Cancer Recoveries Through Faith
In 2001, Vinod was diagnosed with lung cancer after smoking 40-80 cigarettes daily. Doctors recommended removing half a lung. After seeking Gurudev's blessings, Vinod delayed surgery, focusing on breathwork and Sudarshan Kriya. "There was no cancer. It was unbelievable—a complete cure," Kavita said, stunning international doctors.
Years later, bladder cancer emerged with a grim prognosis: a 25% chance of survival after two years. Vinod embraced faith, saying, "I've led a full life. If my time to go has come, I'm ready." After treatment and Panch Karma, scans showed the cancer had vanished again. Though it eventually returned, Kavita affirmed, "He had complete faith in Gurudev until the end."
Concluding her heartfelt account, Kavita expressed gratitude: "It was straight from the heart. I am really grateful to him for bringing me to Gurudev."
