Vipul Shah Stands Firm as 'The Kerala Story 2' Sparks Heated Debate
Ahead of its scheduled release on February 27, 'The Kerala Story 2' has ignited a firestorm of controversy, drawing sharp criticism and legal scrutiny. The film's trailer has become a focal point for intense discussions across social media platforms, with many labeling it as propaganda. Among the most vocal detractors is acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who bluntly dismissed the project as a bakwas picture.
Producer Vipul Shah's Emotional Defense
In response to the growing backlash, producer Vipul Shah has come forward to defend the film, firmly rejecting allegations that its narrative is jhoothi (false). Speaking at a recent event, as reported by News18, Shah emphasized the real-life impact of the story. He stated, Whether someone calls us honest or a liar, it doesn't matter to us. But for those who have lived through these situations, whose lives have been destroyed, or whose family members' lives have been ruined, it makes a huge difference when this narrative is dismissed as false.
Shah expressed deep disappointment over the persistent skepticism, recalling how the team behind the first film organized an event featuring 26 victims to share their harrowing experiences. Despite this, he noted that many continue to deny the reality portrayed. What shocks us is that when we make such a film or choose such a subject, yet even after hearing these stories, a certain lobby still seems to stand with those criminals. It is very sad because the issue is not just about a film, it is about our society, our country, and the daughters of our nation, he lamented.
Legal Hurdles Add to the Controversy
Compounding the controversy, 'The Kerala Story 2' is now facing legal challenges. The Kerala High Court has issued a notice to the producers following a petition that questions how the Central Board of Film Certification granted clearance for the movie. The petition specifically targets the film's teaser and trailer, adding another layer of complexity to its pre-release phase.
Starring Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia, and Aishwarya Ojha, the film remains on track for its February 27 release, but the ongoing disputes cast a shadow over its launch.
Anurag Kashyap's Recent Work
Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap, who has been critical of 'The Kerala Story 2', recently released the neo-noir film 'Kennedy', featuring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone in lead roles. The movie is currently available for streaming on ZEE5, showcasing Kashyap's continued engagement in the cinematic landscape.
As the debate rages on, 'The Kerala Story 2' stands at the intersection of art, reality, and societal discourse, highlighting the powerful role films play in shaping public perception and sparking crucial conversations.
