Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has finally broken his silence on persistent speculation regarding his alleged disappearance from the film industry, firmly dismissing rumors that a serious 2004 on-set accident compelled him to step away from acting. In a detailed statement released on Tuesday, the actor acknowledged the severity of the incident but emphasized it never hindered his capacity to undertake physically demanding roles.
Clarifying Misleading Assumptions About Career Hiatus
Addressing widespread chatter that linked the accident to his supposed exit from acting, Oberoi labeled such assumptions as fundamentally misleading. "Recently, there has been some discussion suggesting that an accident on set affected my ability to perform physically demanding roles, implying that it led to me leaving the industry," he stated. "The accident was indeed serious. I sustained multiple fractures and underwent surgery, which included the insertion of an 18-inch titanium rod in my leg."
Despite the gravity of the injury, the actor stressed that it did not signal the conclusion of his acting journey. He described the recovery phase as both physically and emotionally taxing, yet highlighted his rapid return to full mobility.
Swift Recovery and Return to Action Sequences
Oberoi credited his medical team, particularly Dr. Ali Irani, former physiotherapist for the Indian Cricket Team and Head of Physiotherapy at Nanavati Hospital, for facilitating an impressive recovery. "Recovering from it was challenging, both physically and mentally. But thanks to Dr. Irani and his team, I was able to regain full mobility in about three months," he shared.
Elaborating on the intensity of his rehabilitation, the actor added, "Their skill, guidance, and support made it possible for me to get back on my feet, dance, and perform demanding action sequences so soon after such a major injury. They did a fantastic job, for which I remain deeply grateful."
Accident as a Brief Interruption, Not a Career-Ender
Reflecting on his cinematic journey, Oberoi characterized the accident as merely a brief interruption rather than a defining turning point. "Looking back, the accident was but a blip in what continues to be a fulfilling career, one that would not have been possible without the extraordinary care, guidance, and expertise of Dr. Irani and his team," he remarked.
He further noted that the recovery process enabled him to continue pushing artistic boundaries. "It is because of him that I was able to seamlessly perform some of my most challenging roles, like Omkara (2006), Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), Mission Istanbul (2008), Prince (2010), Krrish 3 (2013), and many more, pushing the envelope in the craft I love without compromise," Oberoi concluded.
