The fantasy action thriller 'Akhanda 2: Thaandavam', starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, has successfully completed a ten-day run in cinemas worldwide. Despite receiving a mixed to negative response from critics, the film has continued its theatrical journey across multiple languages, showcasing the star power of its lead actor.
Box Office Performance: A Detailed Breakdown
According to data from the trade tracking site Sacnilk, the film amassed a substantial ₹76.75 crore in its first week. The primary contributor to this figure was its Telugu version, with the Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam dubbed versions adding smaller amounts to the total kitty.
The film's collections, however, witnessed a significant drop as it entered its second week. On Day 8, which was the second Friday, earnings plummeted to ₹1.7 crore, marking a decline of over 40 per cent compared to previous days. A slight recovery was seen on Day 9 (second Saturday), with collections rising to approximately ₹2.5 crore based on preliminary estimates.
Early figures for Day 10, the second Sunday, indicate a collection of around ₹2.42 crore. This brings the total domestic box office earnings for the first ten days to an impressive ₹83.37 crore.
Audience Turnout and Regional Variance
Occupancy rates on the tenth day reflected a moderate audience interest. In the key Telugu-speaking markets, morning shows saw an occupancy of 22.80 per cent, which improved considerably during afternoon shows to 46.65 per cent.
While the film has achieved a major milestone by crossing the ₹100 crore mark in worldwide collections early in its run, trade analyses point to underperformance in certain regional markets. The weekday numbers have been notably weaker compared to the strong opening weekend, indicating a challenge in maintaining momentum.
Film Details and Future Prospects
'Akhanda 2: Thaandavam' is the much-anticipated sequel to the 2021 blockbuster 'Akhanda'. Directed by Boyapati Sreenu, this marks the fourth collaboration between the director and Balakrishna. The film was released on 12 December 2025 in both 3D and 2D formats.
The cast features Samyuktha Menon as the female lead, with Aadhi Pinisetty portraying the antagonist. A notable debut was made by Harshaali Malhotra in Telugu cinema. The technical crew includes music composer Thaman S, cinematographer C Ramprasad, and editor Tammiraju.
Trade observers note that while the film opened to a powerful start, its performance in the second week and beyond will be crucial in determining its final standing at the box office. The entry into the '100 Crore Club' is a significant achievement for Balakrishna, continuing his streak of commercially successful films.
