Avatar: Fire and Ash Earns ₹72.57 Cr in India, Tops US Box Office
Avatar 3 India Collection Hits ₹72.57 Crore in 4 Days

The highly anticipated third chapter of James Cameron's epic saga, Avatar: Fire and Ash, has made a powerful impact at the box office in its initial run. The film has successfully amassed a significant total in the Indian market while also claiming the top spot in North America over its opening weekend.

Strong Start for Avatar 3 in Indian Theatres

In its first three days in Indian cinemas, Avatar: Fire and Ash garnered an impressive estimated ₹67.25 crore as its India net collection. The movie maintained a steady pace on its fourth day, adding approximately ₹5.32 crore across all language versions. This brings the total India net collection for the sci-fi spectacle to a robust ₹72.57 crore after just four days of release.

The audience turnout showed interesting patterns on Day 4. Southern cities and major metros led the charge with the best theatre occupancy rates. Chennai emerged as the frontrunner with the highest overall occupancy of 26.67%. It was closely followed by Bengaluru at 21.67% and Hyderabad reporting a healthy 19.67% turnout.

Metro City Occupancy and Showtime Trends

Other major urban centres also showed consistent footfalls. Pune registered an occupancy of 16.67%, while Mumbai and Kochi both stood at 15.67% each. Kolkata saw an overall occupancy of 14%. The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded a comparatively lower figure of 10.67%.

A clear trend observed across regions was that evening shows performed significantly better than morning shows. This indicates a stronger audience preference for later screenings, pointing towards sustained interest throughout the day.

International Domination and Franchise Legacy

On the global stage, Avatar: Fire and Ash achieved a major milestone by topping the US and Canada box office on its opening weekend. The film earned an estimated $88 million in North America. While this opening is lower than the $134 million debut of Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022, industry experts emphasize that opening numbers are not the sole indicator of success for this franchise.

Noted industry analyst David A. Gross highlighted to the BBC that the Avatar series is renowned for its long-lasting box office stamina rather than just massive opening weekends. Both the original 2009 Avatar and The Way of Water remained at the pinnacle of the box office for seven consecutive weeks, a pattern that may repeat with this installment.

The film also secured £9 million in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Its current global box office total has reached $345 million. For comparison, The Way of Water had collected $441 million at the same point in its theatrical run.
