Avengers: Doomsday Still Filming Six Months Before Release

'Avengers: Doomsday' is still filming at Pinewood Studios in the UK, according to a new interview with director Joe Russo. The update comes six months before the Marvel Studios film opens in theaters on December 16. The long production window has drawn attention because the movie carries major expectations for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and arrives as the first Avengers film in seven years.

'Avengers: Doomsday' filming update revealed by Joe Russo

Metro UK reported the details in its interview with Russo, who spoke about spoilers and the pressure surrounding major superhero films. The outlet confirmed that shooting on 'Avengers: Doomsday' is still taking place at Pinewood Studios. Marvel Studios is known for reshaping its films during editing and adding more footage through reshoots. Still, the timing is notable because 'Avengers: Doomsday' is close to release and is expected to be one of the studio's biggest projects in years.

Russo addressed how spoilers affect the moviegoing experience. "On one hand, audiences want to be surprised, and that's part of what makes the theatrical experience exciting," Russo said. "On the other hand, it can become a little over-policed, where people are anxious about engaging with anything."

Angela Russo-Otstot, Russo's sister and AGBO CCO, also spoke about protecting major story turns. "[A] lot of thought goes into those twists and turns and reveals when it comes to not spoiling it for others. We're big believers in that and protecting the sanctity of the experience for everybody to enjoy it in the same way," she said.

'Avengers: Doomsday' release faces Dune clash

The film has already given Marvel fans plenty to discuss. Marvel has released four 'Avengers: Doomsday' teasers. The studio is also preparing a re-release of 'Avengers: Endgame' with new footage that connects the 2019 blockbuster to the upcoming film. 'Avengers: Doomsday' also brings back key MCU names who have not appeared since 'Avengers: Endgame.' The film includes Chris Evans as Steve Rogers and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. It will also bring several stars from 20th Century Fox's X-Men films into the MCU.

The release faces another challenge. 'Avengers: Doomsday' opens on the same day as 'Dune: Part Three,' creating a box-office clash dubbed "Dunesday." 'Dune: Part Three' will play in IMAX theaters, while 'Avengers: Doomsday' will use "Infinity Vision."
