Border 2 Box Office Day 18: Sunny Deol Film Witnesses Dramatic Drop Amid No Competition

The much-anticipated sequel Border 2, starring Sunny Deol, has encountered a significant setback at the box office on its 18th day of release. Despite facing no major competition from other films, the movie earned a mere Rs 1.85 crore worldwide on Monday, marking a steep decline from its earlier performances.

Initial Success Fades Quickly

Border 2 opened with a bang, collecting Rs 30 crore on its first day. The momentum built over the weekend, with earnings of Rs 36.5 crore on Saturday, Rs 54.5 crore on Sunday, and peaking at Rs 59 crore on Republic Day Monday. This strong start allowed the film to cross the Rs 150 crore mark during its extended opening weekend and amass Rs 224.25 crore by the end of the first week, signaling a potential blockbuster run.

Sharp Decline in Revenue and Occupancy

However, the film's fortunes took a sharp turn in the following days. On Day 18, the collection plummeted to just Rs 1.85 crore, a stark contrast to its earlier highs. This decline was mirrored in occupancy figures, with the film recording an overall occupancy of only 6.83% across 1,380 shows in India. This represents a significant drop from its peak count of 6,012 shows, indicating a reduction of nearly 4,632 screens.

Comparison with Dhurandhar Highlights Struggles

In a telling comparison, the film Dhurandhar demonstrated far greater stability at the box office. On its 18th day, Dhurandhar earned Rs 16.5 crore and stood at a total collection of Rs 365 crore. This places Dhurandhar nearly Rs 24 crore ahead of Border 2 at the same point in their respective runs, underscoring Border 2's inability to sustain audience interest.

Notable Achievements Amid Challenges

Despite the recent slump, Border 2 has achieved some milestones. It has emerged as the second-highest-grossing film of Sunny Deol's career and the highest earner for co-stars Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The film, directed by Anurag Singh and produced by JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta, enjoyed a clear theatrical window with no major releases scheduled until March, yet it failed to replicate the sustained success of Dhurandhar.

The declining footfall and show counts suggest that Border 2 is struggling to maintain its initial appeal, raising questions about its long-term box office performance. As the film continues its run, industry observers will be watching closely to see if it can recover from this dip or if the trend of decreasing collections persists.
