De De Pyaar De 2 Box Office Performance: Week One Analysis
The family comedy De De Pyaar De 2, featuring Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, and Rakul Preet Singh, has completed nearly one week in theaters with mixed results. According to the latest box office reports, the film managed to cross a significant milestone by surpassing the lifetime domestic earnings of Devgn's previous release, Son of Sardaar 2, though it continues to struggle in reaching the Rs 50 crore mark.
Daily Collection Breakdown
The film's box office journey over its first six days reveals an inconsistent pattern. De De Pyaar De 2 opened modestly on Friday with Rs 8.75 crore, followed by a strong Saturday performance of Rs 12.25 crore. The film reached its peak on Sunday with an impressive Rs 13.75 crore collection, marking its highest single-day earnings so far.
However, the momentum couldn't be sustained as the week began. Monday saw a significant drop to Rs 4.25 crore, though Tuesday surprisingly brought a marginal increase to Rs 5.25 crore. The sixth day, Wednesday, registered the film's lowest single-day collection at Rs 3.5 crore, bringing the total domestic earnings to Rs 47.74 crore after nearly one week in theaters.
Comparative Analysis with Other Devgn Films
While the film has managed to exceed the lifetime collection of Son of Sardaar 2, which concluded its box office run at Rs 46.8 crore, it still lags significantly behind other Ajay Devgn releases from recent years. The family comedy has earned less than one-third of Raid 2, another Devgn sequel released earlier this year.
The comparison becomes even more stark when measured against Devgn's Diwali blockbuster from last year, Singham Again. The Rohit Shetty-directed cop drama earned Rs 247.85 crore domestically and surpassed De De Pyaar De 2's current total collection in less than two days. Similarly, Shaitaan, which also featured the Devgn-Madhavan pairing, earned Rs 147.97 crore last year and crossed what the current film has earned in under three days.
Upcoming Challenges and Competition
De De Pyaar De 2 has a narrow window to cross the Rs 50 crore milestone before facing new competition this Friday. The film will contend with two new releases: the period military drama 120 Bahadur starring Farhan Akhtar, and the sex comedy Mastiii 4 featuring Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh, and Aftab Shivdasani.
The film's premise revolves around Devgn's 50-year-old character Ashish attempting to win over his 26-year-old girlfriend Ayesha's family, where her parents, played by Madhavan and Gautami Kapoor, are approximately the same age as her boyfriend. The ensemble cast also includes Jaaved Jaaferi and Meezan Jafri.
Produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankush Garg's Luv Films in collaboration with Bhushan Kumar's T-Series, the film is co-written by Ranjan and Tarun Jain. Despite the star power and production pedigree, the film's box office performance indicates it may need strong word-of-mouth to sustain beyond the first week, especially with new competition entering the market.
