Dhurandhar Box Office Day 51: Earns Only Rs 75 Lakh

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection Day 51: Ranveer Singh Film Faces Steep Decline

The box office journey of Aditya Dhar's period spy thriller Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, has encountered a significant setback on its 51st day in theaters. The film, which had maintained an impressive streak of daily earnings above Rs 1 crore for 49 consecutive days, has now surrendered to the overwhelming competition posed by the newly released Border 2.

Severe Impact from Border 2 Release

On Saturday, marking day 51 of its theatrical run, Dhurandhar managed to collect only Rs 75 lakh at the domestic box office. This represents a minor increase from its Friday collection of Rs 55 lakh, but it's the first time the film has dipped below the Rs 1 crore mark since its release. The arrival of Anurag Singh's period war drama Border 2, a sequel to JP Dutta's 1997 blockbuster featuring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh, has dramatically affected Dhurandhar's performance.

This decline comes despite the film's monumental success over the past seven weeks. Dhurandhar currently stands as the highest grossing Indian film ever domestically, with earnings of Rs 886.20 crore. It also ranks as the fourth highest grossing Indian film worldwide, having accumulated approximately Rs 1422.20 crore in 50 days.

Historic Box Office Run Interrupted

Prior to the release of Border 2, Dhurandhar had achieved what few Indian films have managed. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film maintained daily collections above Rs 1 crore for an unprecedented 50 days. Recent daily earnings included:

  • Rs 1.10 crore on Thursday (day 49)
  • Rs 1.15 crore on Wednesday (day 48)
  • Rs 1.65 crore on Tuesday (day 47)
  • Rs 1.5 crore on Monday (day 46)

The film benefited slightly from discounted ticket prices at Rs 149 for a day, offered by producer Jio Studios, which helped sustain its collections during weekdays.

Record-Breaking Weekly Performances

Dhurandhar has set multiple records during its theatrical run:

  1. It became the only Indian film ever to earn more in its second week (Rs 253.25 crore) than its opening week (Rs 207.25 crore) domestically.
  2. The film recorded the highest weekly collections for an Indian film in multiple weeks:
    • Week 7: Rs 13.90 crore
    • Week 6: Rs 26.35 crore
    • Week 5: Rs 51.25 crore
    • Week 4: Rs 106.50 crore
    • Week 3: Rs 173 crore
    • Week 2: Rs 253.25 crore
  3. It surpassed Sukumar and Allu Arjun's 2024 Telugu action thriller Pushpa 2: The Rule to become the highest grossing Indian film domestically.

The film is now less than Rs 14 crore away from entering the unprecedented Rs 900 crore club in India. However, with daily earnings reduced to minimal amounts following Border 2's release, achieving this milestone appears increasingly challenging.

Global Box Office Standing

At the worldwide box office, Dhurandhar has amassed approximately Rs 1442.20 crore in 50 days. This positions it as the fourth highest grossing Indian film globally, having surpassed Prashanth Neel and Yash's 2022 Kannada action thriller KGF: Chapter 2. However, the film faces slim chances of overtaking the third highest Indian grosser, Pushpa 2: The Rule, which stands at Rs 1744 crore.

The top two positions in the all-time Indian box office rankings are held by:

  • SS Rajamouli and Prabhas' 2017 Telugu action fantasy epic Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Rs 1810.60 crore)
  • Aamir Khan and Nitesh Tiwari's 2016 Bollywood family sports drama Dangal (Rs 2070.30 crore)

When excluding the China box office, Dhurandhar already holds the title of the highest grossing Hindi film ever and the third highest grossing Indian film worldwide.

The dramatic shift in Dhurandhar's box office fortunes highlights the competitive nature of the Indian film industry, where even record-breaking runs can be disrupted by new major releases. As the film enters its eighth week, its ability to maintain theater presence and audience interest will be tested against the formidable competition from Border 2.
