Bollywood's box office landscape has witnessed a seismic shift as director Aditya Dhar's ambitious spy action film, Dhurandhar, has shattered a major record. The Ranveer Singh-led spectacle has officially become the fastest Hindi film to cross the coveted Rs 500 crore net collection mark, achieving this monumental feat in a blistering 16 days.
A New Benchmark for Hindi Cinema
In its historic sprint, Dhurandhar has overtaken the previous record held by the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan. Directed by Atlee, Jawan had set a high bar by reaching the Rs 500 crore milestone in 18 days during its theatrical run, which concluded at an impressive Rs 582.25 crore. Dhurandhar's two-day advantage underscores its explosive popularity and sustained audience demand. It is important to note that the all-India record for the fastest Rs 500 crore grosser is still held by the Telugu blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun and directed by Sukumar, which achieved it in just 11 days.
The Staggering Financial Run of Dhurandhar
The film's box office trajectory has been nothing short of phenomenal. It opened with a massive first-week collection of Rs 207.25 crore. Defying the typical trend of declining numbers, the movie showcased incredible holding power in its second week, minting an even higher Rs 253.25 crore. After the first two days of its third weekend, the total domestic net collection stands at a staggering Rs 516.5 crore, cementing its position as the 12th highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
The success is not confined to Indian shores. In North America, Dhurandhar has emerged as a major player, earning USD 10.81 million to become the 10th highest-grossing Indian film ever in the region. The film boasts a powerful ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Gaurav Gera, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun alongside Ranveer Singh.
Future Plans and a Clash of Titans
Capitalizing on this pan-India wave, the makers are actively working on dubbing the film in southern languages with plans for a release in the southern markets before the New Year. The franchise is already looking ahead, with the second installment of Dhurandhar slated for release on March 19, 2026. This date sets the stage for a colossal box office clash, as it pits Dhurandhar against Toxic, the much-anticipated next film of KGF fame star Yash. The makers of Toxic added to the buzz by releasing the first look of actress Kiara Advani from the film recently.
Dhurandhar's record-breaking run signals a vibrant phase for Hindi commercial cinema, proving that high-octane, well-made spectacles continue to draw audiences in unprecedented numbers, forcing the industry to recalibrate its benchmarks for success.
