The box office juggernaut Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, shows no signs of slowing down as it completes a phenomenal 15-day run in theatres. The Aditya Dhar-directed spy action thriller has not only captivated audiences across India but has also made a massive impact internationally, setting new benchmarks for Indian cinema.
Record-Breaking Global Collections
According to data from the industry tracker Sacnilk, Dhurandhar has grossed a staggering ₹737.5 crore worldwide in just over two weeks. The domestic net collection in India stands at an impressive ₹483 crore, while the overseas markets have contributed a robust ₹158 crore to the total kitty. On its fifteenth day in theatres, which was a Friday, the film added another ₹22.5 crore to its tally, a minor dip of 3.23% from the previous day, which is considered exceptional for a film in its third week.
This dream run has propelled Dhurandhar into the elite club of Bollywood's highest-grossing films. The movie has now secured the 7th position on the All-Time Top 10 Highest-Grossing Bollywood Films (Hindi Net) list, surpassing the lifetime collections of iconic films like Aamir Khan's Dangal, Sanju, and PK. With the extended Christmas and New Year holiday season on the horizon, industry analysts are confident that the film is on a clear path to breach the coveted ₹1,000 crore global milestone.
IMAX Domination and Clash with Avatar
Dhurandhar has rewritten history in the premium IMAX format as well. The film concluded its two-week IMAX run on December 18, just before the release of James Cameron's Avatar: Fire & Ash. In this 14-day window, the film minted nearly ₹16.50 crore gross from IMAX screens in India. This outstanding performance makes it the highest-grossing Indian film ever in IMAX in India, dethroning the previous record holder, Yash's KGF: Chapter 2, which had earned ₹15.50 crore.
The film's momentum is so strong that it even managed to outperform the Hollywood giant in its opening clash in India. On December 19, Avatar: Fire and Ash opened with ₹20.05 crore, while Dhurandhar, in its third week, earned ₹22.5 crore, showcasing its enduring popularity and holding power against formidable competition.
Plot and Star-Studded Cast
Directed by Aditya Dhar of Uri: The Surgical Strike fame, Dhurandhar is a high-octane spy thriller that weaves a narrative around real-life national security incidents, including the IC 814 hijacking of 1999 and the 2001 Parliament attack. The film boasts a runtime of 3 hours and 32 minutes and features an ensemble cast led by Ranveer Singh.
He is supported by powerhouse performers including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. Key roles are also played by Sara Arjun, Naveen Kaushik, Rakesh Bedi, and Danish Pandor. The film is a joint production venture by Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
As Dhurandhar continues its record-shattering spree, all eyes are now on whether it can sustain its box office magic through the festive period and achieve the unprecedented ₹1,000 crore mark, cementing its place as one of Indian cinema's biggest blockbusters.
