The cinematic juggernaut Dhurandhar continues to rewrite the rules of box office longevity, delivering a theatrical run for the ages. In a stunning display of sustained audience demand, the Aditya Dhar-directed spy thriller has achieved a remarkable feat on its 31st day in theatres, a day when most major releases see a steep decline.
A Historic Fifth Sunday Run
Even on its Day 31, which was its fifth Sunday, the film minted an estimated ₹12.75 crore in net collections across India. This figure is not just impressive for a film in its fifth week; it is an amount that many movies struggle to collect on their opening day. This phenomenal performance has set a new benchmark for the highest Day 31 collection for a Hindi film, showcasing a holding power rarely seen in contemporary cinema.
The film's journey began with a thunderous opening, collecting ₹28 crore on its release day. It witnessed steady growth over its first weekend, peaking at ₹43 crore on Sunday. Despite the inevitable weekday dip, the film held its ground remarkably well, closing its first week at a colossal ₹207.25 crore.
Unprecedented Growth and Steady Hold
Week 2 marked a major turning point, defying the usual trend of decline. The film saw its Friday collections rise again to ₹32.5 crore, followed by a massive ₹53 crore on Saturday and ₹58 crore on Sunday. The second week concluded at ₹253.25 crore, registering a 22.2% growth over the first week—a rare occurrence for a big-ticket film.
While Weeks 3 and 4 saw a natural slowdown, the weekend recoveries remained robust. Week 3 added ₹172 crore to the kitty, while Week 4 contributed ₹106.5 crore. This consistent performance laid the foundation for the historic fifth-weekend run.
After 31 days, the film's total India net collection stands at a staggering ₹772.25 crore. The film's dominance is clear when compared to other major releases. It has left behind Chhaava (₹7.25 crore on Day 31), URI: The Surgical Strike (₹5.66 crore), Stree 2 (₹5.4 crore), and Mahavatar Narsimha (₹4.5 crore) in the race for the best fifth Sunday collections.
Joining the Elite Worldwide Club
The story gets bigger on the global stage. Dhurandhar has now crossed the ₹1,200 crore mark in worldwide gross collections, with its total estimated at ₹1,201.5 crore. This monumental achievement places it among the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
With this, Dhurandhar has become only the second Hindi original film after Aamir Khan's Dangal (₹2,070.3 crore) to breach the ₹1,200 crore worldwide milestone. In the process, it has surpassed the worldwide collections of several blockbusters, including:
- Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan (₹1,160 crore)
- Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan (₹1,055 crore)
- Kalki 2898 AD (₹1,042.25 crore)
- Bajrangi Bhaijaan (₹921.93 crore)
At its current pace, industry trackers expect Dhurandhar to overtake KGF Chapter 2 (₹1,215 crore) and RRR (₹1,230 crore) very soon. This would propel it to the fourth spot in the all-time list of Indian films worldwide, behind only Dangal, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (₹1788.06 crore), and Pushpa 2: The Rule (₹1742.1 crore).
Starring Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna, Dhurandhar has proven to be a cultural and commercial phenomenon. Its unprecedented box office run, characterized by growth in the second week and record-setting collections in its fifth, has set a new standard for success and longevity in Indian cinema.
