Dhurandhar Becomes 2nd Highest-Grossing Indian Film in North America
Dhurandhar Tops Kalki 2898 AD in North America Box Office

Ranveer Singh and director Aditya Dhar's cinematic spectacle, Dhurandhar, has officially carved its name into the record books, achieving a monumental milestone in North America. The film has now become the second highest-grossing Indian film of all time in the region, marking a significant shift in the box office hierarchy.

A Historic Leap Over Kalki 2898 AD

According to early figures reported on Saturday morning, Dhurandhar's total collection in North America has reached an impressive USD 18.57 million. This figure has allowed it to overtake the previous record-holder, the mythological sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, directed by Nag Ashwin, which held a total of USD 18.51 million. The crucial push came from Saturday morning shows, where Dhurandhar added approximately USD 60,000 to its kitty, pushing it past the benchmark.

The film's journey to this position has been powered by exceptional word-of-mouth and strong trending. It opened with a solid $522K on its first day, followed by a jump to $852K on Day 2. However, the real surge was witnessed in its second weekend. On the Friday of that weekend, it collected USD 930K, soared to USD 1.4 million on Saturday, and maintained momentum with USD 1.21 million on Sunday. As of Friday, January 2nd, with a collection of USD 374K, its total stood at USD 18.51 million, setting the stage for the historic crossover.

Chasing the Ultimate Crown and Domestic Dominance

With this achievement, Dhurandhar is now just one spot away from the top position, currently held by Prabhas's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. The SS Rajamouli-directed masterpiece has reigned supreme since 2017 with a colossal collection of USD 22 million in North America. The race to the summit, however, may face new challenges with the imminent release of major films like Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan and Prabhas's The Raja Saab within the next five days, which could impact Dhurandhar's screens and pace.

The film's success is not confined to overseas markets. In India, within 30 days of release, Dhurandhar has amassed a staggering Rs 759.50 crore. This has cemented its place as the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time. On the all-India charts, it currently stands as the 5th biggest hit in Indian cinema history, trailing behind the southern juggernauts RRR, and other SS Rajamouli films. Notably, the four films above it benefitted from massive pan-India releases, including Hindi-dubbed versions. In contrast, Dhurandhar's current run is primarily in Hindi, making its achievement even more remarkable.

Future Plans and Unstoppable Momentum

The ensemble cast, featuring Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera, and Sara Arjun, has delivered a performance that continues to draw audiences. The production has no plans of slowing down its promotional or exhibition strategy, both in India and abroad. Looking ahead, the makers plan to strategically tap into the lucrative southern market with the sequel. Dhurandhar's second part, slated for release on 19th March 2026, will be dubbed into southern Indian languages to expand its reach and potentially replicate its northern success across the nation.

This dual triumph, both domestically and internationally, underscores Dhurandhar's status as a true pan-Indian blockbuster in the making, rewriting rules and setting new benchmarks for Hindi cinema on the global stage.
