Parasakthi Faces Steep Decline at Box Office

Sivakarthikeyan's latest film Parasakthi continues to struggle at the box office. The movie has lost significant momentum just four days after its release. Industry reports confirm a worrying trend for the Sudha Kongara directorial.

Sharp Drop in Shows and Collections

Parasakthi opened with 2,037 shows across India on its first day. By the fourth day, that number plummeted to just 1,424 shows. This represents a loss of over 600 screenings nationwide. The reduction follows consistently poor audience turnout.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned only Rs 2.40 crore on its fourth day. This marks a dramatic fall from its opening day collection of Rs 12.5 crore. The four-day total now stands at approximately Rs 28 crore.

The occupancy rate tells a similar story. On Tuesday, Parasakthi recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of just 12.50%. Most viewers attended night shows, indicating weak daytime interest.

High Expectations Meet Harsh Reality

Many expected Parasakthi to dominate the Sankranti box office season. With nearly Rs 150 crore riding on its success, the film carried substantial financial expectations. The postponement of competitor Jana Nayagan seemed to clear its path.

However, the decline began as early as the second day. Collections worsened progressively through the third and fourth days. The film now faces increasingly bleak chances of reaching its break-even point.

Context and Competition

This performance raises concerns about Sivakarthikeyan's recent box office track record. If Parasakthi fails to recover, it would mark his second consecutive disappointment. His last major hit was Amaran, released during Pongal 2025. That film starred Sai Pallavi and collected over Rs 300 crore worldwide.

Meanwhile, Sharwanand's Nari Nari Naduma Murari hits screens today. Made on a moderate budget, this film could benefit from the festive window. Industry observers expect it to post healthier numbers than Parasakthi.

Behind-the-Scenes Challenges

Parasakthi faced significant hurdles even before release. The Central Board of Film Certification cleared it only after ordering over 25 cuts. The board awarded it a UA16+ certificate, creating last-minute uncertainty.

Director Sudha Kongara expressed frustration with the certification process. She received the cut list just two days before release. "I had just one day to make the changes and submit the film," she told The Hollywood Reporter. Kongara previously described the censor board as democratic and fair, but later acknowledged the difficulties.

Kongara also reported targeted online attacks, largely from Vijay's fans. She quoted a threatening social media post that read: "It is not a big deal to get a CBFC certificate. Apologise to fans of Anna, Vijay, and get the apology certificate. There is one more week. They will forgive you. Parasakthi will run."

The film was originally set to clash with Jana Nayagan. That film postponed its release after failing to obtain required CBFC certification.
