The spy action thriller 'Patriot', featuring Malayalam cinema icons Mammootty and Mohanlal, has experienced a significant slowdown at the box office as it enters its 14th day of release. The film, which initially generated massive excitement due to the reunion of two of the industry's biggest stars, is now showing clear signs of an early decline in theaters.
Day 14 Collections Plummet
On its 14th day, 'Patriot' managed to collect only Rs 12 lakhs, marking one of its weakest single-day performances since its release. This sharp drop indicates waning audience interest after a promising start.
Week Two Performance Shows Weak Trend
According to Sacnilk, the film's weekday earnings in the second week have been inconsistent but largely downward. Day 7 collected Rs 98 lakhs, followed by Rs 71 lakhs on Day 8. Day 9 saw a recovery to Rs 98 lakhs, and Day 10 slightly improved to Rs 1.07 crore. However, the momentum could not be sustained. Day 11 and Day 12 both dropped to Rs 47 lakhs, Day 13 slipped further to Rs 30 lakhs, and the latest Day 14 figure of Rs 12 lakhs confirms the continued decline.
Domestic Earnings Slow While Overseas Holds Firm
On the overall box office front, 'Patriot' has collected Rs 31.22 crore net in India so far, with the India gross standing at Rs 36.22 crore. Overseas markets have performed comparatively better, contributing Rs 43.25 crore. This brings the total worldwide gross to Rs 79.47 crore.
The Malayalam spy thriller, which reunited Mammootty and Mohanlal after a long gap, was released on May 1. It initially opened to largely positive responses, but audience reactions soon became mixed. While some viewers appreciated the scale and theme of the action thriller, others raised concerns about execution and pacing.
Mammootty's Remarks on Mixed Reactions
During a public event in Dubai, Mammootty addressed the varied audience response. According to a report by Mid-day, he stated, 'We are living in an era where privacy is increasingly lost, and the film Patriot addresses this relevant subject.' He also acknowledged differing opinions about the film, saying, 'There will be different views—good, bad, partly good, mostly good. Everyone is free to express their opinion as they feel. Some of you may have heard such opinions before coming here. Whatever it is, you will form your own view, and that is what matters. Films are made with the intention of being enjoyed by all.'
