Prabhas' 'The Raja Saab' Faces Unexpected Box Office Decline
The much-anticipated Prabhas starrer 'The Raja Saab' has encountered significant difficulties at the box office. This performance comes as a surprise given the Rebel Star's recent track record of dominating cinema halls across India. Director Maruthi's horror comedy released with substantial hype but has struggled to make its mark financially.
Steady Decline in Daily Collections
Latest estimates reveal a concerning pattern in the film's earnings. On its eighth day, 'The Raja Saab' managed to collect only Rs 3.50 crore. This represents a sharp drop from earlier performances. Trade analyst Sacnilk provided detailed daily figures that illustrate this downward trend clearly.
The film opened strongly on Day 1 with Rs 53.75 crore. Day 2 brought in Rs 26 crore, while Day 3 earned Rs 19.1 crore. However, the decline became evident from Day 4 onward. Collections dropped to Rs 6.6 crore on the fourth day, followed by Rs 4.8 crore on Day 5. Day 6 saw a slight increase to Rs 5.35 crore, and Day 7 collected Rs 5.5 crore. The eighth day's Rs 3.50 crore marks the lowest single-day collection so far.
After eight full days in theaters, the total collection stands at Rs 133.75 crore. This figure remains far from the Rs 200 crore mark that many industry observers expected. Even Prabhas' previous films that underperformed, such as 'Adipurush' and 'Saaho,' managed better business during their initial runs.
Worrying Theatre Occupancy Numbers
Occupancy statistics tell a similar story of struggle. In Telugu-speaking regions, the overall occupancy on Friday reached 34.88%. Morning shows recorded just 21.57% occupancy. Afternoon shows improved to 37.57%, while evening shows performed better at 43.54%. Night shows dipped again to 36.85%.
The Hindi version paints an even bleaker picture. Overall occupancy stood at only 7.45%. Morning shows attracted just 4.56% of available seats. Afternoon shows reached 8.16%, evening shows maintained 7.96%, and night shows touched 9.10%. These numbers indicate limited audience interest beyond the film's core Telugu market.
About 'The Raja Saab'
Directed by Maruthi, 'The Raja Saab' presents as a horror comedy featuring Prabhas in a royal heritage role. The story follows his character's decision to sell his grandfather's ancestral property, only to discover the location carries supernatural elements. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Boman Irani, Riddhi Kumar, and Zarina Wahab in key roles.
Industry analysts note that the film's performance contrasts sharply with Prabhas' recent successes. The combination of horror and comedy genres, while popular in regional cinema, may not have resonated as expected with wider audiences. The declining daily collections suggest word-of-mouth has not been particularly favorable.
Trade circles continue to monitor whether the film can stabilize in coming days or if the downward trend will persist. The current total of Rs 133.75 crore represents a significant achievement for most films but falls short of expectations for a Prabhas vehicle following his blockbuster successes.
