Riteish Deshmukh's historical epic 'Raja Shivaji' continues its remarkable box office journey in its second week, steadily climbing the record books of Marathi cinema. According to a report on Sacnilk, the film has crossed the Rs 20 crore mark in its second week and is now on track to become one of the highest-grossing Marathi films of all time.
After completing 12 days in theatres, the film earned an estimated Rs 2.50 crore on its second Tuesday, a slight increase of Rs 10 lakh from Monday's collection of Rs 2.40 crore, following a strong second weekend. The film opened impressively in its first week, collecting Rs 52.65 crore, and has maintained excellent momentum in its second week with collections already reaching Rs 20.5 crore. According to the latest trade figures, 'Raja Shivaji' has amassed Rs 73.15 crore in net collections across an impressive 60,155 shows.
The film has emerged as a major success story for Marathi cinema in 2026, reportedly generating a massive Rs 86.65 crore in worldwide gross collections within just 12 days of its theatrical release. Notably, the entire gross collection has come from India alone, highlighting its domestic dominance.
Challenging the All-Time Record
This strong momentum now places 'Raja Shivaji' on track to become the second highest-grossing Marathi film of all time. As of May 2026, 'Sairat' remains the highest-grossing Marathi film ever, with an estimated worldwide gross of around Rs 110 crore. However, trade reports indicate that 'Raja Shivaji' could soon challenge that benchmark if it continues its current pace at the box office. The film is set to surpass the collections of 'Baipan Bhaari Deva', which earned approximately Rs 90-92 crore globally.
Overcoming Competition
Directed by Riteish Deshmukh himself, the historical drama has maintained its hold over the box office despite facing stiff competition from various film releases over the past two weeks. It not only faced off against the Hollywood film 'The Devil Wears Prada 2', but also took on newer releases like the action film 'Mortal Kombat II' and the biopic 'Michael'. Despite these challenges, 'Raja Shivaji' has continued to draw audiences, solidifying its status as a major box office force.
With its sustained performance, 'Raja Shivaji' is proving to be a milestone for Marathi cinema, and all eyes are now on whether it can dethrone 'Sairat' to claim the top spot.
