Raja Shivaji Set for Record-Breaking Box Office Opening with Rs 3 Crore in Advance Sales
Raja Shivaji on Track for Record Opening with Strong Advance Sales

Riteish Deshmukh's directorial venture 'Raja Shivaji', in which he also stars as the legendary Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is poised for a historic opening at the box office. Early reports indicate that strong advance booking trends could propel the Marathi film to a record-breaking debut.

Advance Booking Trends

According to Sacnilk, the Marathi version of the film has already amassed Rs 3 crore in pre-sales for Day 1, including blocked seats. The report suggests that the final advance figures could climb even higher, particularly across the Maharashtra belt, as the release date approaches.

Multi-Language Release Strategy

The film is also releasing in Hindi, with early booking trends indicating an estimated Rs 2 crore net. For 'Raja Shivaji' to achieve a double-digit opening, performance in Hindi and Telugu versions will be crucial to push it past the Rs 10 crore mark. Despite the multi-lingual release, the core business is expected to come from Maharashtra.

Impact of Maharashtra Day Holiday

With the film's release on May 1, which coincides with Maharashtra Day, trade reports suggest higher footfalls are likely, boosting the opening day performance. This holiday release is expected to contribute significantly to the film's strong start.

Box Office Projections

Trade analysts believe that even if the film does not hit the double-digit mark, it could comfortably land in the Rs 8–10 crore range in gross collections on Day 1. Regardless, the film is almost certain to register the biggest opening for a Marathi film, surpassing the current record held by 'Sairat' and 'Timepass 2', both of which opened at around Rs 3.60 crore net.

Ensemble Cast

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Boman Irani, Amol Gupte, and Genelia Deshmukh.

With its strategic release and strong advance bookings, 'Raja Shivaji' is set to make history at the box office, reaffirming the growing appeal of Marathi cinema on a national scale.
