9-Year-Old Boy Dies in Firecracker Blast in Kannur

A tragic incident occurred in Kannur on Monday, where a 9-year-old boy lost his life after a firecracker exploded in his hand. The incident took place at Punnakkapara near Azhikode. The deceased has been identified as Aman, the son of Ubaid, a resident of Punnakkapara.

According to reports, three other children who were also injured in the explosion are currently receiving medical treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable. The mishap happened at a ground where workers of the United Democratic Front (UDF) were celebrating the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister V D Satheesan.

Police suspect that the children attempted to ignite unexploded firecrackers that were left on the ground after the celebrations. Aman sustained severe burn injuries on his neck and hand. Although he was rushed to the Kannur district hospital, doctors could not save his life.

The Valapattanam police have registered a case in connection with the incident and have launched an investigation. Authorities are looking into the circumstances that led to the children having access to the unexploded firecrackers.
