'Tumbbad' remains one of the most underrated horror drama films in Bollywood, and anticipation for its sequel is soaring. According to recent reports, Alia Bhatt has joined the cast of 'Tumbbad 2,' led by Sohum Shah, who also serves as producer. The 'Alpha' actress is expected to appear in a special role, which, though brief, is said to play a key part in shaping the narrative. The project is currently being shot in Mumbai, and her portions are likely to begin from May 3.
Alia Bhatt's Short but Crucial Role in Narrative
According to Mid-day, Alia has been cast in a compact yet important role. Details about her character remain undisclosed, as the makers are keeping key story elements under wraps. Sohum Shah aims to elevate both the scale and impact of the film, and the addition of Alia Bhatt is seen as a major step in that direction.
Mahurat Ceremony and Production Kick-Off
The film officially went on floors in April with a traditional mahurat ceremony. Sohum Shah shared glimpses from the puja on social media. Jayantilal Gada and Dhaval Gada attended the ceremony, along with industry figures Boney Kapoor and Tutu Sharma. Sharing the images, the actor wrote, 'With blessings and gratitude, the journey of Tumbbad 2 begins, as we come together to take the story forward.'
Nawazuddin Siddiqui Adds Star Power
The film already features Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a significant role. His involvement was confirmed earlier this year. In March, the makers welcomed Nawazuddin Siddiqui to the project via Instagram. Their announcement read, 'We are pleased to announce that one of the finest actors of our time, @nawazuddin._siddiqui, has joined #Tumbbad2. Welcome, Nawaz bhai!'
Directed by Adesh Prasad, 'Tumbbad 2' will continue the mythology introduced in 2018. On the last day, the makers shared the first look poster for the sequel and announced the release date set for December 3, 2027.
