While the world rushes for money and fame, some individuals work for a greater purpose. Mahindra Group chief Anand Mahindra, known for highlighting such people, recently shared the story of an octogenarian tea seller in Amritsar whom he wishes to meet on his next visit.
The Temple of Tea Service
Amritsar, famous for the Golden Temple, historic sites, and local street foods like kulcha and chole, holds another gem for Anand Mahindra: the 'Temple of Tea Service', a tea stall run by a humble man for decades.
Anand Mahindra's Post
In his X post, Mahindra wrote: 'There are many sights to see in Amritsar. But the next time I visit the city, apart from visiting the Golden Temple, I will make it a point to visit this ‘Temple of Tea Service’ that Baba has apparently run for over 40 years. Our hearts are potentially the largest temples.'
The video shows Ajit Singh, popularly known as Baba, selling tea under a large banyan tree in the heart of Amritsar for over 40 years. A customer says that Singh views serving tea as seva (service), and money is not his main concern.
Another customer noted that despite his old age, Singh does everything himself. Though utensils have been stolen many times, he never complained.
Tagging the Prime Minister's Office, a user requested PM Narendra Modi to mention Singh in his Mann Ki Baat radio programme. Comments included: 'Great sight. God bless him and his family with health, wealth, and prosperity. Nature's gift to him.'
What This Teaches Us
Every act in life does not need a quantified monetary goal. Serving fellow humans is an act that brings blessings and good fortune. What do you think of Ajit's act? Share your thoughts in the comments.
