Antonio Cipriano, known for portraying Logan on the hit series 'Off Campus', has shared his thoughts on the casting of India Fowler as Grace Ivers, describing it as an ideal match from their very first read together. The actor also offered insights into what fans can anticipate from his character's journey in an upcoming season, explaining that the postponement of Logan and Grace's romantic storyline actually enhances the narrative.
India Fowler Joins the Cast
Since India Fowler, recognized for her role in 'Fear Street: Prom Queen', was announced as Grace Ivers, fans anticipated that she and Cipriano would lead Season 2. However, the streaming platform surprised viewers by revealing Stephen Kalyn and Mika Abdalla as the new leads, portraying characters Dean and Allie respectively.
Cipriano on Fowler's Casting
In an interview with People, Cipriano revealed that he auditioned with three different actresses for the role of Grace, all of whom he deemed incredible. Fowler's casting was disclosed merely days before the show's premiere, yet the chemistry was instantly evident. "India just brought something so... I don't know, she truly fell right out of the books. It was just like I was talking to Grace," Cipriano remarked.
Cipriano also elaborated on why he appreciated that viewers did not witness Logan falling in love during Season 1. By postponing the romance, the audience gets to know the character more intimately before observing him lower his defenses upon meeting Grace. "The first season works as an introduction for all the characters so that fans eventually root for everyone to fall in love," he noted.
Book Series Adaptation
In Elle Kennedy's book series, which serves as the source material for the show, Logan and Grace's story unfolds in the second book, 'The Mistake'. Nonetheless, Season 2 is adapting the third book, 'The Score', implying that the full romance between Logan and Grace is being reserved for a potential Season 3.
Cipriano's character, John Logan, is the best friend of Garrett, played by Belmont Cameli, who co-led Season 1. Logan eventually develops deep feelings for freshman Grace, who joins Briar University.
Record-Breaking Debut and Season 2 Updates
Since its release on May 13, 'Off Campus' has become the third most-watched debut series in the streaming service's history. The platform reported that the show attracted 36 million viewers within its first 12 days.
Returning for Season 2 are Jalen Thomas Brooks, Julia Sarah Stone, Chad Willett, and Philippa Soo. Co-showrunner Louisa Levy confirmed that all episodes of Season 2 are already written, with filming set to commence shortly. Levy and Gina Fattore serve as co-showrunners on the hockey romance series.
