Awarapan 2 to Pick Up from Original's Cliffhanger Ending
The makers of the much-anticipated sequel to Emraan Hashmi's 2007 crime drama Awarapan have revealed that Awarapan 2 will begin precisely where the first film ended. The sequel will continue the story of Shivam, the character played by Hashmi, who was seen walking away into the unknown after a dramatic climax. According to the production team, the narrative will explore what happens next in Shivam's life, maintaining the gritty tone of the original.
Director and Cast Details
While Emraan Hashmi is confirmed to reprise his role, the director for the sequel has not been officially announced. The original film was directed by Mohit Suri, but sources suggest a new filmmaker might take the helm. The makers are also in talks with other actors to join the cast, including a leading lady opposite Hashmi. The film is expected to go on floors by late 2026, with a tentative release in 2027.
Plot Continuity and Fan Expectations
In an exclusive statement, a representative from the production house said, "Awarapan 2 will not be a reboot or a reimagining. It is a direct continuation, honoring the emotional journey of Shivam. Fans who loved the original will find the sequel deeply connected to its predecessor." The first film ended on a poignant note, with Shivam leaving behind his life of crime and violence. The sequel will explore his struggle to stay on the right path while being pulled back into the underworld.
Production and Release Timeline
Pre-production work has already begun, with the script being finalized by a team of writers. The film is being produced under the banner of Vishesh Films, which also produced the original. The budget is estimated to be around ₹50 crore, significantly higher than the original's ₹12 crore. Filming is expected to take place in Mumbai and international locations. The makers aim for a 2027 release, possibly around the 20th anniversary of the original film.
