After months of intense public speculation, star Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has finally broken his silence on his personal life following his divorce from actor-dancer Dhanashree Verma. The divorce was legally finalized in March last year, and in a recent, candid interview, Chahal has shared his journey of healing, his current single status, and the emotional challenges he faced.
Moving On and Setting the Record Straight
Chahal made it unequivocally clear that he has moved forward from his past marriage and is currently not involved in any romantic relationship. He directly addressed the persistent rumours linking him to radio jockey and actor RJ Mahvash, dismissing them as completely baseless. "I'm happily single," Chahal told Mashable India, emphasizing that the women he is often photographed with are simply his friends.
The cricketer also revealed a brief foray into the world of exclusive dating apps, having tried Raya, the members-only platform favoured by celebrities. However, the experience was short-lived. "I didn't really get the concept of dating apps," he admitted, stating that he deleted his account shortly after signing up, finding the format not to his liking.
Battling Trolls and Depression
Since his separation became public, Chahal has been a target of relentless online trolling. The cricketer, however, views this as an inevitable aspect of fame. "When people love you so much, there's going to be a little bit of hate as well," he philosophically remarked. He added that he has developed a thicker skin, no longer allowing negative comments to affect him, recalling that he was trolled earlier for his physique and teeth. "The one who wants to troll will troll everyone. It's not personal," Chahal said.
In one of his most vulnerable disclosures, Chahal spoke about the severe emotional impact of his divorce. He described it as one of the toughest phases of his life, revealing that he struggled with depression. The mental health struggle was so profound that it forced him to miss several major cricket tournaments last year. "My mind wasn't in the right place when I was going through my divorce," he shared candidly.
The Road to Recovery and a New Focus
Chahal credited his mentor, Aniruddh sir from Haryana, for being his pillar of support during that dark period. "I used to share everything with him. He helped me a lot to get out of that phase," the cricketer stated, highlighting the critical importance of a strong support system during emotional lows.
Now, with those personal struggles firmly behind him, Yuzvendra Chahal insists he is in a much better mental space. His focus is squarely on self-improvement, his cricketing career, and moving forward without any bitterness. His story is a powerful testament to navigating personal turmoil in the relentless glare of the public eye and emerging stronger on the other side.
