Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday released 40 volumes of the translated works of the 16th-century saint-poet Kanakadasa. Speaking at the event, the chief minister highlighted the universal appeal of Kanakadasa’s teachings and noted that his works have now been translated into 14 different languages, including English, to ensure his message reaches a global audience.
Preserving Cultural Heritage
The project, undertaken by the Kannada Book Authority, aims to preserve and promote the literary and philosophical contributions of Kanakadasa, a prominent figure in the Bhakti movement. The 40 volumes encompass his major writings, including poems, songs, and philosophical discourses.
Global Reach Through Translation
Siddaramaiah emphasized that translating Kanakadasa’s works into multiple languages will help people across the world understand his teachings on equality, devotion, and social harmony. The translations cover languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and several international languages.
The chief minister also urged scholars and institutions to continue efforts to digitize and disseminate these works widely. He said that the government is committed to supporting such initiatives that highlight Karnataka’s rich cultural legacy.
Kanakadasa, born in 1509, was a poet, saint, and social reformer whose works challenged caste discrimination and promoted spiritual unity. His compositions remain popular in Karnataka and are sung in temples and cultural events.
