KOCHI: The Ernakulam Central police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act against a film director, following a complaint lodged by the woman who gained fame from a viral video at the Kumbh Mela. According to police sources, the woman has accused the director of inappropriate behavior towards her when she was a minor.
Allegations of Exploitation
The complainant has alleged that the director exploited her under the pretext of offering acting opportunities after she became widely recognized due to the viral video. An officer confirmed that the case has been registered but declined to provide further details, noting that the alleged incident took place outside Kerala. The case will be transferred to the appropriate police station with jurisdiction, the officer added.
Confidential Statement Recorded
It is also learnt that the woman has given a confidential statement before a magistrate, as part of the legal proceedings. Earlier, during a press conference in Kochi, the woman had alleged that the director inappropriately touched her on multiple occasions. “When I told my family about it, they didn’t support me,” she had stated.
The police have not yet arrested the accused, and investigations are ongoing. The case highlights the vulnerability of individuals who gain sudden fame through social media and the potential for exploitation in the entertainment industry.
