Comedian Harsh Gujral has finally reacted to the recent reports claiming he was admitted to a hospital while shooting in South Africa. While the news sparked concern among his fans, Harsh chose to address the situation with his signature wit and humour, while also expressing immense appreciation for India’s healthcare system.
Currently in Cape Town for a shoot, Harsh shared that his experience abroad has only deepened his respect for India, especially its doctors and medical infrastructure.
Harsh Gujral's humorous take on South African healthcare
Speaking about the differences he observed, Harsh said, “I am in Cape Town, South Africa, and since I’ve been here shooting, my respect for my country, Indian doctors and the medical system of my country has increased immensely. The medical stores are totally shut at 5 PM here. They say that if you want to fall ill, fall ill before 5 PM. Post sunset, even if you sneeze, they are not responsible for it. I don’t understand what kind of system this is. I checked in the evening and the nearest medical store was showing in Johannesburg. That means if I fall ill or have a fever and need a paracetamol, I’ll have to catch a flight and go all the way there!”
Comparison with Indian medical practices
Continuing in his trademark humorous style, Harsh spoke about his visit to a local hospital. “I visited a hospital here. It was totally empty. I think I was the first patient there. The doctor asked me if a 40 mg medicine would be too heavy for my body. I told him, ‘In India, I have 600 mg Dolo.’ They don’t prescribe a proper dose because they’re scared of overdosing. Indian doctors are the best.”
His hilarious take has left fans amused while also putting an end to speculation surrounding his health. What initially made headlines as reports of his hospitalisation has now turned into a light-hearted anecdote. While Harsh continues with his shoot in South Africa, his candid observations have resonated with many, reminding people not to take India’s robust medical ecosystem for granted.
