The ongoing legal dispute between late industrialist Sunjay Kapur's wife Priya Kapur and his ex-wife actress Karisma Kapoor has taken a new turn with focus shifting to the educational expenses of Karisma's children. The Delhi High Court recently heard arguments regarding the payment of college fees for Samaira Kapoor, daughter of Karisma Kapur and Sunjay Kapur.
Fee Payment Controversy Resolved
During the recent hearing, legal representatives for Karisma Kapoor alleged that the managers of Sunjay Kapur's estate had failed to settle Samaira's college tuition fees. However, Priya Kapur's legal team promptly filed a response contesting these claims.
Priya Kapur's advocates presented official fee receipts to the court, demonstrating that the pending semester fees had already been cleared. The legal counsel further argued that the next payment cycle would only arise in December, making the current allegations premature.
Staggering Education Costs Revealed
The court documents revealed astonishing details about the educational expenses involved. Samaira Kapoor's tuition fee per academic term amounts to approximately ₹95 lakh, highlighting the substantial costs of international education for celebrity children.
According to available information, 22-year-old Samaira completed her schooling at the American School of Bombay before moving to the United States for higher studies. She is currently enrolled at Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she began her program in 2023 with expected completion in 2027.
Broader Legal Battle Continues
The fee payment issue forms part of a larger legal confrontation over Sunjay Kapur's massive estate, estimated at ₹30,000 crore. Karisma Kapoor's children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj, are seeking partition of their father's estate, rendition of accounts, and a permanent injunction against Priya Kapur and other family members.
Earlier in the proceedings, Priya Kapur had told the high court that it was a healthy tradition for a husband to bequeath all assets to his wife. She also refuted claims by Karisma's children that their father's alleged will had surfaced under suspicious circumstances.
Tufts University, where Samaira is pursuing her education, is a prestigious private research institution established in 1852. The university offers 198 graduate and certificate programs across its four branches in the United States.
The case highlights the complex intersection of family dynamics, financial responsibilities, and the substantial educational investments made for celebrity children studying abroad. The matter continues to be heard in the Delhi High Court as both parties present their arguments regarding the extensive estate settlement.
