Kerala MLA Criticized for Dropping Candies on Desk

Thiruvananthapuram: Kazhakoottam MLA V Muraleedharan has sparked a controversy after a video surfaced on social media showing him dropping candies onto a desk in front of students at the Ambedkar Memorial Government Tribal LP School on the school reopening day Tuesday.

Video Shows MLA Pouring Candies

In the widely circulated video, the MLA is seen pouring candies from a plastic cover onto the desk where students were seated. Critics, particularly those associated with CPM social media handles, alleged that the MLA's actions were an insult to the children. They argued that instead of dropping the candies, he should have placed them directly into the hands of the young students.

Former Education Minister Joins Criticism

Former Education Minister V Sivankutty was among those who accused Muraleedharan of showing gross disrespect to the children. The incident quickly gained traction online, with many questioning the MLA's intentions and behavior.

MLA's Office Denies Charges

However, Muraleedharan denied the allegations and claimed that those trying to create a controversy over the incident were themselves insulting the children. According to a statement from his office, the MLA first presented one candy to a child. When the children expressed a desire for more candies, he emptied the entire pack onto the desk, allowing the children to take as many as they wanted.

The controversy continues to stir debate on social media, with supporters and critics weighing in on the appropriateness of the MLA's actions.
