A special POCSO court in Bhopal on Wednesday sentenced both accused in the sensational gangrape and murder of a 12-year-old girl at Manuabhan Tekri in Koh-e-fiza police station area to life imprisonment till death. The court also directed the State Legal Aid Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim's family.
Incident Details
On April 30, 2019, the minor girl had gone to Manuabhan Tekri with a relative and a male friend. The accused, identified as Avinash Sahu and Justin, took turns raping her before smashing her head with a stone and throwing her body into a gorge. The incident sent shockwaves across the country.
Investigation and Confession
After the girl was reported missing by her family, the police launched a search operation and detained the duo for questioning. They eventually confessed to the crime and revealed where they had dumped the body. Based on their information, the body was recovered from a 100-feet deep gorge.
Court Verdict
The court pronounced the sentence of life imprisonment till death for both accused, ensuring they remain incarcerated for the rest of their natural lives. Additionally, the compensation of Rs 5 lakh aims to provide some financial relief to the bereaved family.
