The television show 'Mahadev and Sons,' starring Shakti Anand, Sneha Wagh, and Garvita Sadhwani in lead roles, has frequently made headlines for its engaging storyline and strong performances. However, the daily soap is currently facing severe criticism for allegedly romanticizing domestic abuse.
Backlash Over Controversial Scene
The controversy erupted after a scene aired in which Dheeraj, played by Aasim Khan, slaps Rajji (Garvita Sadhwani), pushes her, and behaves aggressively. The clip quickly spread across social media, prompting many viewers to accuse the makers and the channel of promoting toxic behavior.
Social Media Outrage
Netizens expressed their anger and disappointment online. One user commented, 'The producer is living in the past glory of the Madhubala show; times have changed. Now people are more aware and do not accept societal wrongs, toxic relationships, or abusive family dynamics. You cannot get away with showing abuse and toxicity in the name of angst and romance.' Another wrote, 'Colors is doing everything wrong, from serving Bhojpuri romance, making its fugly bodied male leads go shirtless, to glorifying regression and romanticizing domestic abuse just to get decimal-level TRPs. Glad the TRP audience rejects such trash.'
Some viewers questioned the channel's decision to air such scenes. One tweet read, 'PH is showing domestic violence and calling it romance. Don't know how the channel is passing such scenes.' Another user called out the makers, saying, 'I can't believe what I saw today. They literally showed Dheeraj hurting Rajji and then romanticizing abuse. He should be in jail. This is disgusting. Can't believe he is the same man who saved her from getting hurt.'
Actress Sneha Wagh on Her Character
Earlier, in an interview, actress Sneha Wagh, who plays Vidya in the show, shared insights about her role. She said, 'Vidya is the backbone of Mahadev & Sons. She doesn’t try to control things or show power, but her presence is felt in every relationship in the house. She understands that excessive love can slowly turn into poison. That’s why she doesn’t hate her sister Bhanu for the grudge she holds against her husband. She knows it comes from a place of love turned bitter. She believes in staying calm instead of reacting and choosing kindness over control—that is her quiet strength. She also had the courage to stand up for her love when it truly mattered, even if it meant losing her home, family, surname, and inheritance. She believes in love, but she also understands its responsibility. Her conviction continues to guide her every decision.'
Previous Controversy
Mahadev and Sons had previously courted controversy when actress Manasi Salvi exited the show. The matter gained further attention when she revealed that she was taking legal action against the producer.
This incident adds to the ongoing debate about the portrayal of domestic violence in Indian television, with many calling for more responsible content.
