Actor 'Master' Mahendran found himself at the center of a controversy last weekend following his comments on the recurring power outages in Chennai. In an interview, when asked about the power cuts, the actor remarked, 'Why do you question everything?' and suggested installing a 'solar system,' which quickly became fodder for trolls on social media.
Clarification on Intent
Speaking to us, Mahendran clarified, 'My question was directed at those who politicize the issue, not at the common people raising genuine concerns. I have great respect for the public.'
The actor explained that his intention was to reiterate Chief Minister Vijay's request for a six-month period to resolve issues before criticizing the government. 'Sadly, that point has been misunderstood,' he added.
Admission of Gaffe
Acknowledging his mistake in using the term 'solar system' instead of 'solar panel,' Mahendran shared, 'What I meant was to promote the use of solar power. I had read about Kochi airport, which is the world's first fully solar-powered airport, and the Pasumai Veedu scheme initiated in Tamil Nadu by former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.'
He emphasized that his suggestion was well-intentioned and aimed at encouraging sustainable energy solutions.
