Mandy Moore, best known for her role in This Is Us, has opened up about her emotional journey with fertility treatments. The 42-year-old actress and her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, attempted in vitro fertilization (IVF) to expand their family but faced disappointment when no viable eggs were retrieved.
Mandy Moore Reflects on Her Third Pregnancy
Speaking candidly on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Moore revealed that the IVF process yielded no embryos. "And I was like, okay, well this just settles that. If this is something that is meant to be, it will happen naturally," she said. The mother of two sons—August 'Gus' Harrison Goldsmith, 5, and Oscar 'Ozzie' Bennett Goldsmith, 3—expressed gratitude for her children. "And then Lou just had to show up," Moore joked about her third baby, Louise 'Lou' Goldsmith, born in 2024. She described the pregnancy as a surprise: "We were not trying, but obviously we were open to it because of the IVF of it all."
Mandy Moore Opens Up About Fertility Struggles
Moore, who married Taylor Goldsmith in an intimate Bohemian-style ceremony in 2018, has previously shared her fertility challenges. On her Instagram for the This Was Us podcast, she recalled a doctor's consultation that indicated a slim chance of pregnancy—shortly before she conceived Gus. The actress emphasized that her third child felt like a miracle, arriving naturally after IVF did not succeed.
Moore's journey highlights the emotional and physical toll of fertility treatments, as well as the unexpected joy of natural conception. She continues to advocate for openness about reproductive health, encouraging others to share their stories without shame.
