WWE star Drew McIntyre's absence from the company appears set to continue, as the former WWE Champion has reportedly taken on another major acting project in Hollywood. According to reports from PWInsider and Deadline, McIntyre will not be returning to WWE anytime soon, having been cast in a significant new film role alongside Russell Crowe.
McIntyre's WWE Return Delayed Until After SummerSlam
Reports indicate that McIntyre is not expected to return before SummerSlam. Following his work on the upcoming Highlander reboot, which was filmed in Scotland, McIntyre has been exploring several acting opportunities in Hollywood. The reason for his extended hiatus includes recovering from injuries and pursuing acting roles.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, there are currently no creative plans in place for McIntyre's return to WWE television. The report also refuted recent online speculation suggesting a return ahead of SummerSlam.
McIntyre's Hollywood Projects
With multiple film commitments and no creative plans in WWE, the 15-time World Champion appears to be focusing on Hollywood. Reports suggest he is currently working on a project after completing the Highlander reboot.
According to Deadline, McIntyre has joined the cast of The Last Druid, a historical action drama starring Russell Crowe, scheduled to film in Spain this summer. As reported by PWMania, the film is set in ancient Caledonia and follows a Roman Emperor's discovery of a secluded Druid stronghold. Crowe plays a peaceful Celtic elder forced to fight when his people are threatened by the Roman Empire.
Details about McIntyre's character remain undisclosed. The ensemble cast includes Stacy Clausen, Pablo Derqui, Rose Leslie, Andreas Pietschmann, Daniel Zovatto, and Tennyson Crowe, Russell Crowe's son.
McIntyre has been building his acting resume with projects like The Killer's Game alongside Dave Bautista and Terry Crews, and the Highlander reboot, which has recently wrapped filming.
