Munjya Director Aditya Sarpotdar Prioritizes Quality Over Sequel

Two years ago, director Aditya Sarpotdar took a bold gamble on a relatively obscure Konkan folk spirit, and the bet paid off handsomely. His film 'Munjya', devoid of any major star power or established franchise, managed to gross over Rs 100 crore worldwide, catapulting Sarpotdar into the limelight. The movie's success has left fans clamoring for a sequel, but the filmmaker remains cautious, prioritizing quality over haste.

Sarpotdar on the Sequel Question

In a recent interview with Variety India, Sarpotdar addressed the burning question on everyone's mind: When will 'Munjya 2' hit the screens? He did not evade the topic. "I receive numerous messages about it, and it's gratifying to know that people are eager to watch it. However, that's precisely the challenge. I cannot let them down with a subpar product. I would rather not make it than deliver something that doesn't meet the expected standards," he stated.

He further elaborated, "I'm comfortable with being asked a decade from now, 'Why didn't you make it?' But until I feel that my script achieves a certain level of quality and offers something entirely new that surpasses audience expectations, I will not proceed with it."
