Nakuul Mehta Reveals How Fatherhood Transformed His Outlook on Ambition and Parenting
Popular television actor Nakuul Mehta, who has garnered immense admiration from audiences through his diverse roles on the small screen, recently shared profound insights about his journey into fatherhood and how it has reshaped his personal and professional life. Currently starring in the new project Space Gen Chandrayaan, Mehta opened up in an exclusive conversation with India Today, discussing the significant changes parenthood has brought to his worldview.
A Quieter Ambition: Parenthood's Impact on Success
In the interview, Nakuul Mehta reflected on how becoming a parent prompted him to reevaluate many life choices. He acknowledged his inherent ambition but noted that fatherhood has made this drive more subdued and meaningful. "It's interesting that this show came to me at a point when becoming a parent made me question a lot of choices in life," Mehta shared. "I am inherently ambitious, and ambition is sometimes looked down upon in this country. I think ambition is a great thing, but after becoming a parent, my ambition has become quieter. It's no longer about going all guns blazing. It's about chasing the smaller wins."
This shift in perspective highlights how fatherhood has encouraged Mehta to focus on more personal and fulfilling achievements rather than purely external success markers.
Conscious Parenting: Keeping Children Away from Screens
Nakuul Mehta also elaborated on his deliberate approach to parenting, particularly regarding screen exposure for his children. He revealed that his son, Sufi, is aware of his profession as an actor but has not watched any of his work. "My son now knows that I'm an actor and he's been to my set, but he hasn't watched any of my work," Mehta explained. "He has heard a song from one of my shows, Never Kiss Your Best Friend. It has a beautiful album, and he loves the song, but he doesn't know what the visuals are. He has met my friends, he's met Shreya (Saran), he's met Danish (Sait), but he hasn't seen any of my work."
Mehta emphasized that this decision is intentional, aiming to provide a normal upbringing for his children. "I don't think he should grow up thinking that what his dada does is different from what everyone else does," he stated. "I want him to know that I'm a professional, I go to work, and I do what I love. Right now, that's where we are. It will evolve and change in a few months, but I'm very happy with this at the moment."
Family Life: A Growing Household
Nakuul Mehta is a proud father of two children. He and his wife, renowned singer Jankee Parekh, welcomed their son Sufi earlier and expanded their family with the arrival of their daughter, Rumi, in August last year. This growing family dynamic continues to influence Mehta's approach to both his career and personal values.
Through his candid revelations, Nakuul Mehta offers a glimpse into the thoughtful and reflective parenting style that prioritizes meaningful connections and balanced ambitions over conventional success narratives.
