The mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old woman found dead at her marital home in Bhopal, has leveled serious allegations against her parents and raised questions about her mental health. Twisha was discovered dead at her husband's residence in Bhopal's Katara Hills area on May 12, just five months after marrying Samarth Singh, a lawyer, in December 2025. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of mental torture and dowry harassment, claiming she was murdered.
Mother-in-Law's Counterclaims
In a dramatic turn of events, retired judge Giribala Singh, Twisha's mother-in-law, presented a starkly different narrative during a press conference. She claimed that Twisha had been undergoing psychiatric counseling and was prescribed medications typically given to schizophrenic patients. Additionally, Singh alleged that Twisha exhibited withdrawal symptoms, including trembling hands, and confessed to consuming large quantities of marijuana during her pregnancy.
Rejection of Dowry Allegations
Singh vehemently denied accusations of dowry harassment, stating that the family made efforts to save Twisha after finding her hanging. She said, "We gave Twisha CPR, and even neighbors tried to save her. We did our best." She further accused Twisha's parents of neglecting their daughter and exploiting her financially, claiming they pushed her into the glamour world at a young age and later disowned her.
Bail Plea and Police Investigation
Similar claims were made in the bail plea filed for Samarth Singh, which stated that Twisha became irritable without access to narcotic substances and had received psychiatric care. The plea also mentioned that she suffered a miscarriage and her behavior changed after becoming pregnant. A local court reserved its order on Samarth's bail plea, while Giribala Singh had previously been granted anticipatory bail. Samarth remains absconding, with police deploying six teams and offering a Rs 10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
Police Statements
Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Kashyap Kaul confirmed that authorities have contacted the passport office to prevent the accused from fleeing the country. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the case. The preliminary post-mortem report from AIIMS Bhopal indicated death due to hanging suicide, with no findings related to alleged drug use so far. Kashyap stated, "We are strictly investigating according to the sections in the FIR."
Family's Response
Twisha's family has refused to accept the body and is demanding a second post-mortem, preferably at AIIMS Delhi, citing doubts about the local investigation. Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, questioned, "Why should the body be handed over when the case remains dubious? The PM report and evidence do not match. We have lost any hope for justice." Relatives revealed that Twisha had expressed a desire to leave Bhopal and return to Noida, staying in touch with them until around 10 pm on the day of her death.
