Chandigarh: A tragic incident has unfolded in Panipat, where a couple died by suicide after allegedly suffering months of harassment and intimidation from their daughter-in-law, who was reportedly obsessed with creating social media reels, and her family.
Details of the Incident
Rajesh, 46, and Suman, 44, residents of Nara village, were found unconscious in their home on May 9. They were immediately taken to a hospital in Rohtak, where they succumbed to their injuries on Sunday. The police have registered a case against four individuals: the couple's daughter-in-law, Sneha; her sister; and her parents. All have been charged with abetment to suicide and are currently absconding.
Root Cause of the Tragedy
The tragedy reportedly stems from a love marriage that soured due to cultural and lifestyle differences. Living in a traditional village setting, Rajesh and Suman had frequent clashes with Sneha over her choice of attire and her constant filming of social media reels. The couple's family alleged that these domestic disagreements escalated into a broader campaign of bullying and harassment.
Before their deaths, the victims detailed a sordid tale of daily conflict, claiming that Sneha's family had assaulted them, causing severe mental distress. The harassment reportedly continued for months, leaving the couple with no respite.
Legal Action Taken
Rajesh's brother filed a case at the Matloda police station under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with abetment to suicide. The police have launched a search for the accused, who are believed to be in hiding.
This incident highlights the growing concerns over the impact of social media obsession on family dynamics and mental health. Authorities are urging families to seek counseling and resolve conflicts amicably to prevent such tragedies.
