Parvathy Thiruvothu, who began her acting career with the 2006 film 'Out of Syllabus', has built an impressive filmography over the years, including notable films such as 'Take Off', 'Uyare', 'Ullozhukku', 'Virus', and 'Puzhu'. In a recent interview, the actress opened up about why Malayalam cinema icons Mammootty and Mohanlal are considered true legends.
On Working with Mohanlal
Recalling her early experience working with Mohanlal, Parvathy shared with Pinkvilla the profound impact it had on her. She worked with the superstar when she was just starting out in the industry. “I worked with Mohanlal a long time ago. I was 19; I am now 38. It’s been almost 20 years. Going back to who I was, he kept his presence of mind as an actor, and I was amazed by that. Also, Jagathy Sreekumar was there, and I had only one scene,” she recalled.
Parvathy admitted that at that stage, she was still figuring out her craft. The experience helped shape her understanding of acting. “I didn’t even know as an actress what I wanted to be at that time, and what this craft is. I was a child in a lot of ways, and I understood that was the kind of quality as an actor I wanted eventually. I am proud to say that now, after 20 years, I am there where I can switch in and out, have those intuitions, and take care of my co-actors,” she added.
Why Parvathy Thiruvothu Calls Them ‘Legends’
Parvathy emphasized that being a legend is not just about stardom. She highlighted the importance of conduct and empathy on set. “I am so obsessed with taking care of others on sets because I have seen ‘these legends’ are made legends because of how they are also better human on set. It has nothing to do with box office because it won’t matter if they are a horrible person. I think this is why people speak about certain actors as legends, because they walk on set and make it a better place,” she explained.
About Working with Mammootty
Speaking about Mammootty, Parvathy shared a similar experience. The 'Puzhu' co-star noted the aura they bring but also the equality the Mollywood big M's maintain during performances. “With Mammootty also, it was the same experience. I mean, obviously, when these people walk on to a set and there is a gravitas. Everyone goes silent and all. However, when they are in front of you, you have to forget they are these legends. Otherwise, how will we act together, like what if I have to act like slapping them if I am looking at them in awe. I love it when these so-called legends and superstars allow nothing to come in the way of their craft or at the job in hand. I could be a newcomer and in front of the camera, we are equals,” she concluded.
Parvathy Thiruvothu on Completing 20 Years in Cinema
In a separate interaction with TOI City, Parvathy opened up about completing two decades in the industry. She spoke about growth, courage, and evolving perspectives. “I started at 17. I was fearless and bold. But over the years, your understanding of courage evolves. There’s wisdom that comes with knowing how harsh this industry can be. It’s an ongoing journey, and I’m proud of the craft I’ve built and the friendships I’ve nurtured - few, but meaningful. Last year, as I was approaching 20 years in cinema, I felt old. But earlier this year, I felt like an infant again. You can start afresh at any stage in life,” she said.
