COIMBATORE: In a unique and heartwarming initiative, the Podanur police station in Coimbatore city on Tuesday hosted a traditional baby shower for two pregnant policewomen, Aishwarya and Monisha, who are serving at the station. The event, organized under the leadership of inspector P Ashok Kumar, saw the police personnel and their families come together to celebrate the expectant mothers in a festive atmosphere.
Traditional Celebrations at the Police Station
Following age-old customs, the police officers presented Aishwarya and Monisha with traditional silk saris and sets of bangles. Their husbands were gifted dresses and shirts, along with trays of fruits and flowers. The ceremony, typically held in households, was recreated at the police station, with senior officers applying sandalwood and vermilion on the women's foreheads, showering them with flower petals, and offering blessings for a safe delivery.
A Lavish Spread and Emotional Moments
The police team curated a lavish spread of 16 varieties of traditional dishes, which were served to the couples and their families. The families, moved by the gesture, expressed their gratitude, stating that the station felt less like a government office and more like a welcoming home. The event aimed to strengthen the bond between the police force and the community.
Inspector Ashok Kumar, who arranged the baby shower, said, "We wanted to bridge the gap between the khaki and the public. This was not just a ceremony; it was an emotional connection with the community we serve. With the support of our superior officers, we arranged this event."
The celebration was widely appreciated, highlighting the human side of the police force and their commitment to fostering a positive relationship with the public.
