Mysuru: On Monday, members of the Coalition for Sex Workers, Sexual and Gender Minority Rights (CSGMR) organized a pride march as part of the Karnataka Swabhimana Habba in Chamarajanagar town. The march aimed to demand that the central and state governments protect the rights and interests of sexual and gender minorities.

March Route and Significance

The procession began at the Chamarajeshwara Temple and concluded at Rajkumar Kalamandira. Participants emphasized that the habba is more than a festival; it is a people's movement focused on building solidarity and advancing social justice.

Key Demands

  • Immediate withdrawal of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act-2026, with an ordinance rejecting the same.
  • Establishment of a Gender and Sexual Minorities Welfare Board with adequate transgender representation.
  • Effective implementation of the Karnataka State Policy on Transgenders-2017.
  • Provision of free healthcare for sexual minorities in government hospitals.

The participants urged the government to take swift action to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of all sexual and gender minorities in the state.
