Prison Chief Denies Darshan Thoogudeepa Suicide Rumors

Bengaluru: Director-General of Prisons and Correctional Services Alok Kumar on Monday dismissed as “completely baseless” rumors claiming that actor Darshan Thoogudeepa had attempted suicide in Bengaluru Central Prison.

Alok Kumar clarified that no such incident occurred and appealed to the actor’s fans not to believe in such false information. “The rumors (of Darshan trying to harm himself) are far from the truth. He is doing fine,” the DGP said.

Darshan, who is lodged in prison in connection with the sensational Renukaswamy murder case, has written to the prison superintendent seeking permission to meet his wife, Vijayalakshmi.

Vijayalakshmi also met Alok Kumar to request a private meeting ahead of their wedding anniversary. Authorities stated that a decision will be taken as per prison rules.

Alok Kumar noted that Vijayalakshmi was emotional during the meeting, particularly after the Supreme Court recently rejected Darshan’s bail plea. She also shared a post on Instagram expressing her feelings during this difficult phase.
