Rohan Mehra on emotional meeting with Gulzar and father's legacy

Actor Rohan Mehra may never have met his late father, legendary actor Vinod Mehra, but over the years, he has slowly connected with him through cinema, memories, and stories shared by people from the film industry. The actor, who made his debut with 'Baazaar', recently spoke about one of the most emotional experiences of his career: meeting celebrated lyricist and filmmaker Gulzar.

An Unforgettable Meeting with Gulzar

In an exclusive interaction with Variety India, Rohan shared how Gulzar's heartfelt words about Vinod Mehra deeply moved him and strengthened his emotional connection to his father's legacy. Recalling his meeting with Gulzar, Rohan described the interaction as one of the most unforgettable moments he has experienced in the industry so far. 'The afternoon I went over and met Gulzarsaab at his house has been one of the most remarkable and touching experiences that I've had in this industry,' Rohan revealed.

He further shared that Gulzar spoke not only about Vinod Mehra's craft as an actor but also about the kind of person he was off-screen. 'He spoke about him. How he was as an artist, how sensitive he was, the special relationship that they shared and what a great man he thought he was,' Rohan said. The actor admitted that listening to such personal memories left him emotional and grateful. 'And all the things he said just made me feel so proud and it made me feel blessed that I'm Vinod Mehra's son,' he added.

Carrying Forward a Legacy While Building His Own Identity

When asked whether he feels burdened by expectations surrounding his father's legacy, Rohan offered a thoughtful perspective. According to him, he sees it more as a blessing than pressure. 'Not pressure, but I do feel the blessing of having the opportunity to carry that legacy,' he explained. However, the actor also clarified that he hopes to carve his own path in the entertainment industry. 'That said, I do want to create my own legacy,' he said.

Interestingly, Rohan revealed that people often point out similarities between him and Vinod Mehra, despite never having had the chance to know his father personally. 'People tell me how similar my interests are to his. They say that he even wanted to be a filmmaker and that he loved music,' he shared. Rohan further added, 'So it's uncanny that I've never met the man, but somehow in the weird, strange way the universe works, we have the same interests. And maybe, the legacy is naturally going to be carried forward in that way.'
