The mortal remains of legendary playback singer S Janaki were brought to the Maharaja's College Ground in Mysuru on Tuesday for the public to pay their last respects. The Mysuru district administration, led by District Minister Dr S Yathindra, Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy, and the city police under Commissioner Seema Latkar, have made elaborate arrangements for the homage.

The district administration has set up a designated area at the Maharaja's College Ground where the body is kept for viewing. Security personnel have been deployed to manage the expected large crowds. The police have also arranged for traffic diversions and parking facilities to ensure a smooth flow of visitors.
According to a statement from the district minister's office, the homage will continue until late evening, allowing fans, colleagues, and dignitaries to pay their respects. S Janaki, who passed away at the age of 86, was known for her vast repertoire of songs in multiple Indian languages.

S Janaki, often referred to as the 'Nightingale of South India', recorded over 40,000 songs in languages including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi. She received several accolades, including the Padma Shri in 2013 and the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 1976 for the song 'Senthoora Poove' from the Tamil film '16 Vayathinile'.
Her passing has been mourned by fans and colleagues across the film industry. Many celebrities have taken to social media to express their condolences. The Karnataka government has announced a state funeral with full honors.
